Sussex County Republican Party Response to the 2025 State of the State Address

Yesterday, Governor Meyer delivered his first State of the State address, highlighting several issues that deserve serious attention — particularly the challenges facing Delaware’s public education system.

We agree: improving educational outcomes, expanding access to healthcare, and ensuring public safety are shared goals that impact every family in our state. But while the Governor addressed important topics, his message was overshadowed by misplaced blame.

During his remarks, the Governor pointed fingers at the minority party, suggesting we cannot oppose “tough decisions” in Dover while expressing concern over federal actions.

Let’s be absolutely clear: For over 30 years, one party — the Governor’s party — has controlled all three branches of Delaware’s government. That same majority has overseen the very problems they now claim to be solving. It’s troubling to see the Governor shift the blame onto Republican legislators across the state, particularly those in Sussex County.

For years, we have stood firm in advocating for solutions that prioritize fiscal responsibility, educational improvement, community safety, and the protection of family and constitutional rights. It’s unfortunate that, rather than acknowledging these efforts, the Governor seeks to divert attention from the real issues at hand.

It’s not enough to make promises from the podium. Delawareans are looking for results that improve daily life, not headlines or half-measures. We’ve heard pledges to reform education, fix housing, reduce medical debt, and strengthen infrastructure — but many of these same promises have been repeated year after year. What’s missing is accountability.

The Sussex County Republican Party remains committed to working for the people of Delaware. We are ready to work across the aisle to find solutions — but we will not sit silently while the truth is ignored and responsibility is deflected. Delaware deserves leadership that prioritizes implementation over intention, performance over politics, and outcomes over optics.
