Delaware Lt. Governor

Ruth Briggs King

Delaware GOP Endorsed Candidate

ABOUT Ruth Briggs King

An educator and successful businesswoman, Ruth Briggs King has spent her life serving Delaware communities.

A lifelong Delawarean, Ruth's roots in Delaware predate the foundation of our country. Now, after 32 years of mismanagement in Dover, Ruth is standing up to restore Delaware’s standing as the best state in America to live, work, and raise a family.

Ruth grew up in a proud Sussex County farming family. She graduated from Sussex Central High School before earning her bachelor's and master's degrees from Wilmington University.

Ruth started her career in healthcare before becoming a high school teacher at Polytech High School in Kent County, where she taught for six years.

After teaching, Ruth returned to the private sector, serving as an executive at various financial institutions and the Sussex County Association of REALTORS®.

Learn More About Ruth

In 2009, Ruth launched her campaign for State Representative and proudly served Sussex County in the General Assembly for 14 years. Ruth has been a leading voice in Dover, fighting for better schools, safer streets, and a more robust economy.

Now, King is running for Lieutenant Governor to continue her service to Delaware. Her campaign will focus on building a strong economy, equipping students to excel in life, and ensuring that neighborhoods throughout Delaware are safer.

King’s campaign will utilize her experience as an educator and her membership on multiple committees, including the Joint Finance, Education, and Public Safety committees, during her time as a legislator to provide solutions to the issues created by single-party rule in Dover.

Currently, Ruth was appointed by Governor Carney and serves on the Women's Commission for Delaware.

Ruth and her husband, Stanley, have been married for 48 years and have two children and six grandchildren. They currently reside in Georgetown and attend Crossroads Community Church.
